Expedition Planning and Training

Planning an expedition can appear monumental. Not only must you select a solid team and obvious items like equipment and food, attention must also focus on many seemingly insignificant items like permit applications which, if forgotten, could mean the difference between a successful or unsuccessful expedition. There is also the need to understand the business side of an expedition, including fund raising and record keeping that is often required by a funding agency.  Both physical, mental, and team building exercises should be undertaken before departure.  Discovering a team member is in poor physical condition or not mentally prepared for such an adventure can side track the best plan.
It has been my passion to travel, explore and work in some of the most remote and harsh environments on earth. This unique experience has allowed me the opportunity to determine what it takes to work and survive in the most forbidding locations imaginable, whether it is

  • In the Arctic, where temperatures can hover below minus 70 C and winds can approach 100 mph
  • In a Desert Research Station, where noon brings a high of 118 degrees and sand seems to get into everything compromising your equipment
  • In the Amazon Rain Forest, where the nearest road is a two-day walk and everything you have with you is wet
  • Or at Disaster Management Sites, where food and water supplies are contaminated, people are hurting, infrastructure is heavily damaged, and support services are over taxed.

Through these varied experiences I have gained considerable knowledge about expedition planning including; equipment needs, team building, logistic coordination, emergency needs, food and fuel requirements, and fund raising.

As a result of having been there, done it and survived, let me assist you in planning your next expedition and training your team regardless of needs or destination.
